Jazeera Airways gets approval to fly to Al Najaf following successful Kuwait-Iraq bilateral discussions

Kuwait, March 17 2012 — Following the successful bilateral discussions between the governments of Kuwait and Iraq, Jazeera Airways announced today that it has secured rights to operate Kuwait-Al Najaf route and intends to launch the route within the next six months.

Jazeera Airways, which currently operates 18 non-stop routes in the Middle East from Kuwait, will be the first Kuwaiti airline to operate a scheduled service between Kuwait and a city in Iraq.

The bilateral discussions also granted access to Kuwaiti airlines to operate to other Iraqi cities, including Mosul, Baghdad, Arbil and others.

Established in 2005, Jazeera Airways Group is a Kuwait Stock Exchange-listed company and operates a fleet of fully-owned Airbus A320s. The airline is the largest carrier serving the region from Kuwait.

In 2011 the airline carried 1.2 million passengers in total across its network that includes today high-demand business, leisure, family, and weekend destinations such as Dubai, Bahrain, Beirut, Alexandria, Amman, Damascus, Istanbul, Sharm El Sheikh, Assiut, Aleppo, Deir Ezzor, Luxor, Mashhad, Sohag, Jeddah, Riyadh and Cairo.
