Jazeera Airways carries more than 7,300 passengers between Kuwait and KSA in February 2011

Freedom Town, April 2, 2011 – Award winning airline Jazeera Airways today issued its monthly operational performance report for the month of February 2011, which showed that the airline carried 7,364 passengers between Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) during the month, and a total of 89,661 passengers on all routes served by the airline, network-wide.

Network-wide, Jazeera Airways had carried 89,661 passengers in February, securing it continued lead in market share for the 20th month in-a-row, ahead of all other Kuwaiti airlines and many other airlines that compete on the same routes.

The company was successful in securing this month-on-month performance streak since July 2009, and equally successful in growing the gap between Jazeera Airways and other operators with the introduction of the company’s Turn-Around Plan in May 2010 that addressed the overcapacity in the market.

Since then, Jazeera Airways has also performed financially beating analyst expectations for the last two quarters of 2010.  In November, the airline announced a third quarter (Q3) net profit of KD4.4 million, its best Q3 on record.  In February 2011, the airline announced a fourth quarter (Q4) net profit of KD2 million, making the second half of 2010 the airline’s best second half since 2008.

The today-issued report is based on data from Kuwait’s Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA).

In total, the monthly report showed that Jazeera Airways carried a total of 89,661 passengers, with 28,141 passengers between Kuwait and the Levant region, 20,001 passengers between Kuwait and Egypt, and 38,843 passengers between Kuwait and other Gulf countries during the month of February.

Report highlights:

  • Jazeera Airways captured the largest market share on routes operated between Kuwait and the Levant region, capturing a 31% market share on the Kuwait-Beirut route, a 35% market share on the Kuwait-Amman route, a 44% market share on the Kuwait-Damascus route, and a 100% market share on both the Kuwait-Aleppo and Kuwait-Deir Ezzor routes – Jazeera Airways is the only airline operating between Kuwait and Aleppo, and Kuwait and Deir Ezzor.
  • Jazeera Airways captured the largest market share on routes operated between Kuwait and Egypt, grabbing a 49% market share on the Kuwait-Alexandria route, a 78% on the Kuwait-Assiut route, a 92.6% on the Kuwait-Luxor route, and a 44% on the Kuwait-Sohaj route.

The report also showed that Jazeera Airways was the largest Kuwaiti operator to Bahrain during the month, with a 19% market share.

Jazeera Airways operated the month with an on-time performance (OTP) of 94%, making it one of the most punctual airlines in the Middle East.
